Online presentation on Viral Ecologies(...) “The piece is a pair of wrought iron
spikes; modified c-clamps fasten down on a
surface, and the spikes rise from this support
system. They reflect the bars of gates (who is
let in? who is being kept out?). The spikes
pierce pieces of fruit: blackberries, cherries
and oranges become sort of severed heads on
the ends of the prongs. These transplanted
wrought iron bars – their slightly limp wristed
points caress the sky – stand tall while the
juices of the fruit drip down their shafts. The
gates submit to the fruit; what has been used
to create a barrier - and the c-clamps that
could easily crush something between their
metal mouths – become simple holders for
fruit and the creatures that feast on them.” (...)Graham Feyl 

(...)“I started working on a series of metal sculptures under the title of Heavy Duty in summer 2021. This ongoing body of work is inspired by wrought iron garden gates and critter&#38;nbsp; feeders. First iteration of the project was exhibited at the Bird Show, a project space organized by Erin Toale in July 2021. Graham Feyl wrote a reflection text about the show and the sculptures, which turned into a pdf publication along with the documentation of the pieces. For Viral Ecologies, I have updated this publication and included the newest member of the series; Heavy Duty (Domonique as Summer). Just before I left Chicago I had the chance to visit “Dancing in Real Life”, the retrospective exhibition of Yannis Tsarouchis at Wrightwood 659. A&#38;nbsp; young man from Chartres, Dominique, who is also a poet, a painter, a musician, was one of Tsarouchis’ muses. Dominique modeled for him for multiple projects. In 1975 Tsarouchis painted portraits of Dominique modeling as seasons. In the portrait of summer Dominique&#38;nbsp; holds (offers) a piece of fruit on one hand and on the other he holds a sickle.&#38;nbsp; Heavy Duty (Domonique as Summer) recreates this moment and portrays a day in late summer. Fall is approaching, your motives are slowly shifting towards eudaimonia but hedonia still outweighs.”

Locker room: bodies weathered by their station. A small pendant of a newborn carved in Myrrh
hangs from his neck. A tingling discomfort lingers in his throat. Off he goes to the steaming
pipes where his hand will expertly guide the pump. The operation begins. The gurgling pipes
eat up the ocean floor. Underwater: a sudden current drags an enormous conch shell – at great
speed – towards the main pump. Blocked now, the once inert machine twists like a wounded
animal; dinosaur slurry animating its contortions. With all its parts now alive Derrickman J.E
reluctantly accepts his fate. An oily hose lifts him by the neck, constricting his carotid while a
serendipitous drop of crude flies downward towards his gaping mouth. Gasping for air, but in
doing so, inhaling the bitterest ambrosia. After the commotion, his body is limp, poisoned but
not strangled.

Faysal’s work is a sharp assessment of industrial permanence, a written word in a providing
chain, now able – as it stands erected – to hold, to even provide us with a sweet serum of
Health that extends this moment of asphyxia a bit longer or forever. Or is it a gaping wound we
are licking? A dripping nourishment of time on display. Immunizes but also anesthetizes.

Em’s, an event of affective intuition, both carcass and butcher (a skinning knife with fur handle)
in metaphorical one, two liners that are always enough for you needn’t write much for a potent haiku. how much honey can i eat? is far from passively feeding from this arrangement or
standing in the rain as it is a great spirit that contains, like architecture itself. For it too must be
scattered somewhere. And we too will find it ruined in (due) time.

Both in existence here, in the ghostly presence of an absent animal.“

Installation, variable dimensions,&#38;nbsp; stud wall, pine wood, ceramic tiles, car seat leather, steel rings, usb-c cables, Bluetooth chips, concrete, plaster, ceramic, 2019
Begining from the early 2000s, the use of Bluetooth created a covert form of digital cruising. By renaming their devices, queer people, mostly gay men, reclaimed their presence in public space, which allowed them to communicate surreptitiously.&#38;nbsp; Short radio range of bluetooth requires this digital method to incorporate with the physical space.&#38;nbsp;Turned on, in range, ready to pair explores the legacy of queer space and its transformation through technology. Each object within the installation is equipped with a Bluetooth chip that transmits a short poem as the name of the device to the digital environment. The objects seep into the digital layer of the city hoping to be found, proposing different strategies of occupying space and articulating desire.

	Fluid StructuresSite specific installation, variable dimensions, reflective vinyl letters on exposed plumbing system, 2019“Overhead, a frieze of reflective texts, collectively titled fluid structures, interrupts the building’s infrastructure, composing an expanded poem that is reordered as the viewer moves through space. References to bodily fluids and recreational drugs make clear parallels between the inner-workings of the built environment and the body, their exposure also suggesting the exposure of an underground culture. Despite Altunbozar’s explicit reference to sexual intimacy, the queerness of fluid structures stems primarily from its formal characteristics: its placement within the would-be-concealed infrastructure; the juxtaposition of the pristine text against the soiled pipes; and the inability to access the work from a single vantage point.“

Foul stinked the room for a month at Siblings Collective in December 2019 as part of the exhibition titled Decorientations, curated by Matt Morris.&#38;nbsp;

		<description>Vase No.219l x 12w x 48h (in), hand polished uncoated stainless steel, 2019Study for a vase24l x 20w , screen printed on cotton paper, 2017

“Formed by two rolled steel plates, Vase No. 2 (lamb), reimagines the prepared carcasses displayed in the windows of Turkish butchers through an act of Calderesque abstraction. Altunbozar’s Vase No. 2 (lamb) retains a naturalistic scale and strips the coat from the abstracted animal, leaving only a raw metallic flesh. Where the two pieces of steel meet, a delicate rod supports a single flower, alluding to a local Turkish tradition of concealing the anus of a butchered animal—in some cases with herbs or flowers—justifying the gesture through a paradox of modesty. An earlier screenprint, study for a vase (2018), serves as a counterpoint, vividly rendering the vessel in question—the stark black of a flower winding through a subtly-textured anal cavity that has been isolated entirely from its bodily context. Informing one another, these works question the selective visibility of sexuality in contemporary culture, wherein queer bodies are objectified, yet physical intimacy is suppressed.”
